Mine is a modified photo-journalistic style in which I attempt to immortalize those special moments as they unfold naturally. I say modified because in addition to documenting the actions of the day, I embrace all the little details which were so painstakingly planned. In capturing the visual narrative, I try to convey the personalities, not only of the wedding party, but also the guests, which provides the couple with a real sense of individuality in their collection of images. There certainly is a place for traditional photography with it’s predictable poses but I prefer telling a story about the day without interfering in the progression of it. There is always ‘somebody’ with a camera orchestrating photos. I try to take advantage of those moments by snapping away while folks are waiting around to say cheese. If the focus is not on MY camera, it is possible to catch more natural movements and expressions. I also spend time focusing on the surroundings in non-traditional ways. My goal is to give my patrons art worth framing and with which to decorate their walls rather than photo albums filled with static pictures rarely viewed. Doing that can even mean editing my work with software designed to produce a more graphic image than the pure photograph.
