What is Lifestyle Photography?
Lifestyle is defined as "a way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group." Or, in short, "a typical way of life." Lifestyle photography portrays you naturally - in your typical way of life.
Why Lifestyle Photography?
To document your history. When you look at your portraits, you should recall the greatest times in your life, not the positioning skills of the photographer who posed you. My photographs will capture the reality of your moments and your life so that years from now, when you flip through your albums, you will see and remember the joy you experienced at your wedding, the way your baby fit just perfectly in the crook of your arm, how your toddler loved playing in the room you decorated for him...your history. My lifestyle portraits do what posed, formal pictures rarely can; they capture reality and convey context.
To provide you with a positive experience. Whether it's your wedding or your family portrait session, you should have the best possible experience. At your wedding, you will get to enjoy the day without me interfering to set up countless posed portraits. (Although, I can, of course, still capture those traditional shots that you might want.) Similarly, at your family portrait session, you can enjoy the experience knowing that your loved ones will be relaxed and comfortable in their home or their favorite spot around town. Lifestyle photography means that you and your family, especially little ones, can have fun and be themselves.
To reflect your uniqueness. Your personality, your habits, your taste and preferences, the dynamics in your important relationships - everything about you makes you one-of-a-kind. My lifestyle portraits are artistic renderings that reflect your individuality. Have a favorite hangout? Is there a sport or hobby you love? Have you taken the time to make your home warm and beautiful? Your portraits can and should include any or all of these things.
